Part Time Employees

Overview

Part-time employees can participate in benefits that are voluntary and contributed to solely by the employee with no matching funds contributed by the City as long as this is agreeable with the benefit company.

Family Medical Leave

The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 assists eligible employees in the care of newborn or newly adopted children and provides for absences to care for themselves, a child, a parent or a spouse faced with serious health conditions and qualifying exigency leave for families of members of the National Guard and Reserves when covered military member is on active duty or called to active duty in support of a contingency operation. Eligible employees are entitled to up to 12 weeks (or up to 26 weeks of military caregiver) of unpaid leave during any 12 month period for certain purposes, as listed in section 9-8 through 9-5-16 of the city's personnel manual.

The City observes State designated holidays which are:

  • Veterans Day

  • Christmas

A number of programs (such as social security, worker's compensation and unemployment insurance) cover all employees in the manner prescribed by law.
