Crater District Area Agency on Aging

The purpose of the Board is to establish policies under which the CDAAA operates, to hire or approve the hiring of paid personnel employed by the CDAAA, to approve the award of all contracts or grants and disbursement of funds by CDAAA, to direct the establishment of, approve and monitor the execution of programs for senior citizens in accordance with the desires of their governing bodies, and to serve as the official spokesperson between the CDAAA and their respective jurisdictions.

Crater District Health Advisory Board

The Board, with the participation of the local health director, shall actively participate with community representatives in the formulation of a comprehensive plan for the development, coordination, and evaluation of local health service systems.

Crater Planning District Commission

The City’s appointed representatives represent the city and its interests on all matters pertaining to regional planning in the Crater Planning District.

District 19 Community Services Board

District 19 Community Services Board (D19CSB) is a multi-jurisdictional, community-based, organization whose mission is to improve the quality and productivity of the lives of individuals who experience, or are at risk of experiencing, mental disabilities, and/or substance abuse.

Economic Development Authority

The Economic Development Authority promotes industry and develops trade by encouraging manufacturing, industrial, and commercial enterprises to locate or remain in the City.

Electoral Board

The State Code of Virginia, section 24.2-106 requires that each city and county shall have a three member electoral board to carry out the election duties for their jurisdiction as required by law.

Emergency Services Board

The Department of Emergency Management is responsible for local disaster mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.

Emporia-Greensville Airport Commission

The Emporia-Greensville Airport Commission is in charge of maintenance and operation of the Emporia-Greensville Regional Airport.

Emporia Redevelopment & Housing Authority

The Emporia Redevelopment and Housing Authority is a seven member board appointed by City Council. Its mission is to facilitate redevelopment and housing related projects in the City.

Farmers Market Advisory Board

The Farmers Market Advisory Board is a seven member board appointed by City Council. The Board shall serve in an advisory capacity to the City Council and recommend revisions or additions to the Rules and Regulations.

Greensville County School Board

The Greensville County School Board consists of four county members and two city members as directed by contract dated December 11, 1980. It provides a comprehensive system of educational services designed to provide the individual skills, attitudes, values, and understandings necessary in society.

Highway Safety Commission

The Highway Safety Commission is responsible for reviewing issues of traffic and pedestrian safety in the City of Emporia as referred to it by the City Council, City Administration, other governmental agencies, or the general public.

Meherrin Regional Library Board

The Meherrin Regional Library board oversees the day-to-day operations of the Richardson Memorial Library.

Planning Commission

The Planning Commission advises City Council on zoning related matters, including rezoning, conditional use permit, and architectural compatibility review requests.

Social Services Board

This Social Services Board has the responsibility of administering the Social Services Programs as set forth in the Code of Virginia, subject to the rules and regulations of the State Board of Social Services.

Southside Community Criminal Justice Board

The purpose of the SCCJB is to administer pretrial court services and community-based corrections programs consistent with the Comprehensive Community Corrections Act (CCCA) and Pretrial Services Act (PSA).

Southside Regional Jail Authority

The Southside Regional Jail Authority oversees the operations of the Southside Regional Jail.

Southside Virginia Community College Board

This Board meets on a quarterly basis to develop policies and assist the president of the local community college.

Southside Virginia Education Center Board of Directors

The SSVEC Board promotes business development, workforce training, adult education, and employment opportunities throughout Southside Virginia.

John Tyler-Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP)

The John Tyler Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP) serves the cities of Colonial Heights, Emporia, Hopewell and Petersburg and the Counties of Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Greensville, Henrico, Powhatan, Prince George, Surry, and Sussex.
